Our Purpose

Better Public Education is a non-profit organization that advocates for Oregon’s K-12 students. Whether they are learning in a traditional public school, charter school, or a private school setting, every child has a right to learn in the way that suits their unique needs and will allow them to succeed. Every student is special. Every student has worth. Every student matters.
At the heart of our advocacy is the belief that Oregon’s public education system exists to serve and educate students, not to serve a partisan agenda or benefit organizations outside the classroom. We work with community leaders, educators, elected officials, and other stakeholders to improve Oregon’s public education system. We advocate for policies that:

• Fully fund Oregon’s public K-12 education system

• Restore graduation standards in reading, writing, and math

• Expand learning options for students, including education savings accounts, virtual education, open enrollment, and charter schools

• Reduce class sizes

• Increase the high school graduation rate
